Chemini is a commune in the province of Béjaïa, in the Kabylie region of northern Algeria. It sits on the hills on the edge of the Soummam valley, and its landscape is shaped by slopes rather than plains. From above, there is no single dense grid but a cluster of villages and settlements linked by roads that turn and double back to follow the terrain.
This pattern is typical of Kabyle mountain communities, where houses were built on ridges and hillsides, with olive groves and small fields on the slopes below. The roads provide the most striking lines on the map, bending around contours and connecting one hamlet to the next before descending towards the valley.
A Chemini map poster turns this hillside geography into a graphic of winding lines and scattered clusters. It suits people from the commune and its villages, many of whom now live in Algiers, France or further away, and who want the shape of home to hang on their wall.

Scattered villages
Instead of one centre, settlements sit along ridges and slopes, appearing as small clusters of streets spread across the frame.
Towards the Soummam
The land drops towards the Soummam valley, where roads descend and straighten, giving the composition a clear sense of direction.
