Chhindwāra is a district headquarters in southern Madhya Pradesh, on a plateau in the Satpura range. From above, the town has a dense older core with narrow, irregular streets. Wider roads lead out toward Nagpur, Seoni and Betul. A railway line passes through the town, and newer residential areas extend along the main roads into the surrounding fields.
The surrounding district is hilly and heavily forested in places. Part of Pench National Park, the tiger reserve, lies within Chhindwāra district. The Patalkot valley, a deep, horseshoe-shaped gorge in the district, is home to tribal communities and is known for its medicinal plants. There are coalfields in the region as well.
