Chitipa is the administrative centre of the northernmost district of Malawi, close to the borders with both Tanzania and Zambia. It sits on high, rolling ground, far from the lake and the larger cities further south. From above, the town appears as a modest cluster of streets and buildings, with roads spreading out across the surrounding countryside.
