Chongming Map Poster & Print
Chongming is an island district of Shanghai, formed from sediment carried down by the Yangtze and deposited where the river meets the East China Sea. On the map it is a long, flattened shape lying across the estuary, with broad channels of water separating it from the mainland on both sides.
The interior is mostly flat farmland, divided by straight roads and a dense network of irrigation channels into a regular, almost ruled pattern. Small towns sit along the main roads, while the eastern tip opens into the Dongtan wetlands, a major stopover for migratory birds.
Chongming is often described as China's largest alluvial island, and it is linked to Pudong by the Shanghai Yangtze River Tunnel and Bridge. A Chongming map poster shows a quieter side of Shanghai: water, fields and an island still slowly growing from the river.

Ruled farmland
Straight roads and irrigation channels divide the flat interior into a regular pattern, giving the map a calm and ordered texture.
Dongtan wetlands
At the eastern end, the island opens into tidal wetlands, where the land fades gradually into the sea and fine channels branch out.
