Ciechanów lies in northern Mazovia, about a hundred kilometres north of Warsaw, on the small Łydynia river. The town's best-known landmark is the castle of the Dukes of Masovia, a brick Gothic fortress from the fourteenth century with two round towers, standing in the river valley.
