Two rivers meeting
The Caroní flows north into the Orinoco at the city's edge. It forms a T of water that frames the whole urban area and holds the composition together.

Ciudad Guayana Map Poster & Print
Ciudad Guayana was created in 1961 by joining two settlements on opposite banks of the Caroní River. San Félix, the older town, lies to the east. Puerto Ordaz, a company town built for the iron industry, lies to the west. The Caroní runs north between them into the Orinoco, and the city spreads along both rivers.
The city was planned from the start, with help from urban planners at MIT and Harvard. Wide highways, separate industrial zones and large residential districts were laid out on open land. The results are easy to see on the map: long arterial roads, distinct neighbourhoods, and green space kept along the water.
On the Caroní, rapids and waterfalls run through city parks such as La Llovizna and Cachamay. The river's dark water meets the paler Orinoco nearby, a contrast visible from the air. A Ciudad Guayana map poster shows two towns tied together by bridges, with two great rivers shaping the edges of both.

Bridges over the Caroní
San Félix and Puerto Ordaz face each other across the Caroní. The bridges between them are the main joints of the city and stand out as thin lines across the water.
Planned arterials
Wide highways sweep between districts in long curves, in the style of 1960s planning. Individual neighbourhoods sit in the spaces the highways leave between them.

For people from San Félix or Puerto Ordaz, this map shows both halves of home at once. The rivers give the print a strong outline that reads well from across a room.
