Bend of the Tigris
The river sweeps around the historic core in a tight curve. From above, this strong line makes the old town's former island shape easy to see.

Cizre Map Poster & Print
Cizre lies in Şırnak Province in southeastern Turkey, on the Tigris River close to the borders with Syria and Iraq. The river curves tightly around the old town, which was once almost an island. Its historic name, Jazirat ibn Umar, means the island of Ibn Umar. The loop of the Tigris still defines the centre on a map, with newer districts spreading across the plain.
The town has a long history as a river crossing and a regional centre under many rulers. It is closely tied to the Kurdish epic Mem and Zin, and the tomb associated with the two lovers stands in the town. The remains of a medieval stone bridge decorated with carvings stand on the Tigris nearby.
A Cizre map poster shows the unusual shape of a town held by its river: the arc of the Tigris around the old core, the bridges crossing it, and the fields and roads spreading toward the border. It is a strong, clear image for people from the town and the wider region.

Old stone bridge
The remains of a medieval bridge over the Tigris, known for its carved reliefs, mark an ancient crossing. They add a historic detail beside the modern bridges.
Border plains
Beyond the town, the land opens into flat plains toward the Syrian and Iraqi borders. Fields and straight roads give the map calm, wide edges.
