Domont lies in the Val-d'Oise, about twenty kilometres north of Paris, on the northern slopes of the wooded Montmorency hills. From above, the town is a compact mix of older streets around its historic centre and later residential areas. On one side it stops sharply at the edge of a large forest.
The Domont map poster is defined by that contrast. To the south and west, the Montmorency forest forms a wide area of trees crossed only by straight rides and footpaths. To the north and east, streets, housing estates and a railway line connect Domont to neighbouring towns and to Paris.
The Montmorency forest is one of the larger woodlands close to the capital, and Domont has long been a place where Parisians came for the green edge. The town grew with the railway, which still links it to Gare du Nord. Its map combines the fine texture of suburban streets with the open calm of the forest.

The railway runs through town toward Paris, a strong straight line that links Domont to the capital and divides the residential districts.
