Dschang lies at around 1,400 metres in the highlands of western Cameroon, in the heart of Bamiléké country. The terrain is hilly and green. From above, the town's streets curve with the slopes instead of forming a grid, and neighbourhoods spread over the ridges and down into the valleys between them.
Its cool climate drew the colonial administration, which developed Dschang as a climatic station. It later became a university town, and the University of Dschang is one of the country's main institutions, known especially for agriculture. The artificial Lake Dschang lies close to the centre and forms a clear, calm shape in the middle of the map.

Hillside streets
