Gavdos Map Poster & Print
Gavdos lies in the Libyan Sea south of Crete and is generally regarded as the southernmost inhabited point of Europe. On a map it is a compact, irregular island with a lightly marked interior, a handful of small settlements and a coastline of coves and headlands.
The island has only a small year-round population, which grows in summer as visitors arrive by ferry from Crete. Much of the land is covered with low juniper and pine, and dunes and sandy bays line parts of the coast. At its southern tip, Cape Tripiti is often cited as the southernmost point of the continent.
A Gavdos map poster is about the edge of a map as much as the island itself. The sparse roads and small villages leave the outline clear, and the surrounding sea fills much of the frame. Local tradition links the island with Calypso's island from the Odyssey, a story that fits its remote position.

Harbour at Karave
The small port on the northeast coast is where ferries from Crete arrive, and it anchors the island's short road network.
Open interior
Few roads cross the island's low hills, leaving the land largely unmarked apart from small villages and scattered tracks.
