Colonial checkerboard
The centre follows a regular grid of near-square blocks, a layout inherited from Spanish planning that gives the map a strong, even rhythm across the whole town.

Güira de Melena Map Poster & Print
Güira de Melena sits on the level farmland of Artemisa province, a short distance southwest of Havana and within reach of the island's southern coast. From above the town is a model of the Spanish colonial plan: a regular checkerboard of blocks organised around a central park, with the church and main civic buildings marking the heart of the grid.
The surrounding plain has long been worked as farmland, and on a map it appears as a patchwork of rectangular plots divided by straight rural roads. Because the land is so flat, the streets keep their alignment right to the edge of town before giving way to fields. The effect is orderly and calm, almost like a diagram of an ideal Caribbean town.
A Güira de Melena map poster suits anyone who knows the rhythm of these streets, the evening walk around the park, the roads out toward the farms. In a single black-and-white frame it holds both the compact urban grid and the agricultural land that has shaped local life, a balance typical of the towns of western Cuba.

Central park
A plaza at the core of the grid anchors the town, with the church and public buildings around it, a pattern repeated across many towns in Cuba.
Farmland plain
Flat agricultural land surrounds the town on every side, divided into rectangular plots and crossed by straight roads that extend the grid into the countryside.
