High Point sits in the Piedmont Triad of North Carolina, between Greensboro and Winston-Salem. It took its name from its position as the highest point on the original North Carolina Railroad line. The tracks still cut diagonally through downtown, Main Street crosses them near the centre, and neighbourhoods fan out around the old core in shifting grids.

Showroom district

Oak Hollow Lake
This reservoir in the north-west of the city reaches into the surrounding neighbourhoods with a shoreline of long fingers. It is one of the most distinctive water shapes on the map.
