Ichchāpuram is in Srikakulam district, at the northern tip of Andhra Pradesh, right next to the border with Odisha. From above, the major highway between Chennai and Kolkata is its clearest feature. Because it sits on the border, Ichchāpuram mixes Telugu and Odia influences, and both languages can be heard in its markets. The land around it is a low coastal plain with rice fields, ponds and groves, and the Bay of Bengal lies a short distance to the east.
