Coastal lagoons
Lagoons lie between the town and the sea. Their irregular outlines break up the flat coastal plain and make the map feel open.

Jaguaruna Map Poster & Print
Jaguaruna is on the southern coast of Santa Catarina, in a flat landscape where the land meets a chain of coastal lagoons before reaching the open Atlantic. On a map, the town centre sits inland, among roads and farmland. Its territory stretches towards the sea, where small beach settlements line up along a coast that runs almost perfectly straight.
The area is known for its sambaquis, large prehistoric shell mounds left by the people who lived along these lagoons thousands of years ago. Some of the best-known examples in Brazil are near Jaguaruna. The town is also close to the regional airport that serves the southern part of the state.
A Jaguaruna map poster shows a landscape made of water as much as land. There is a compact inland town, the irregular outlines of the lagoons and the long, clean line of the beach with its small grids of holiday streets. Laid out in black and white, the contrast between the soft lagoon shapes and the straight coast gives the composition its character.
