Irregular lanes
Instead of a planned grid, the town's lanes wind between compounds and open plots. In black and white this makes a dense, organic texture typical of Sahelian settlements.

Kabkābīyah Map Poster & Print
Kabkābīyah is a town in North Darfur, western Sudan, west of El Fasher and northeast of the Jebel Marra massif. It has long been a local market centre for the surrounding countryside. Herding and rain-fed farming there depend on a short rainy season followed by long dry months.
From above, the town is low and spread out. Compound walls and unpaved lanes make an irregular, fine-grained pattern rather than a formal grid, and the main roads stand out as broader lines cutting through it. The plain around the town is crossed by seasonal watercourses that stay dry for much of the year.
A Kabkābīyah map poster is above all a keepsake for people connected to the town, including families who have had to leave during years of conflict. With no colour or labels crowding the page, the map is a quiet record of streets and neighbourhoods, a way of holding on to the shape of home.

Crossing roads
The main routes through town connect it with El Fasher to the east and with other Darfur centres. They are the strongest lines on the map and anchor the composition.
Seasonal watercourses
Dry riverbeds that fill only after rain cross the land around the town, a reminder of how closely life here follows the seasons and the short rains.
