Kekem lies in the West Region of Cameroon, near the boundary with the Littoral Region. It sits on the transition between the lower country toward the coast and the higher plateau of the Bamiléké lands. On a map the town is strung out along its main road, with side streets branching off into the hilly ground on either side.
The main route through Kekem connects the lowlands with Bafang and the plateau towns further inland, and much of the town's activity follows that line. Beyond the built-up area, the land is broken into hills and valleys. It is a farming landscape where smaller roads and paths curve with the terrain.

Branching side streets
Short streets leave the main road and climb into the surrounding slopes. They create an irregular branching pattern that is characteristic of hill towns in western Cameroon.
