Ribbon streets
Houses line the main roads that leave the village. This creates long, thin built strips that are typical of the Flemish countryside.

Koersel Map Poster & Print
Koersel is a district of Beringen in the Belgian province of Limburg, in the sandy Kempen region of Flanders. The countryside here is a mix of pine forest, heath remnants and farmland. From above, the village appears as a loose network of streets gathered around its church, with ribbon development stretching along the main roads.
The wider area was shaped by coal mining during the twentieth century. The Beringen mine and the mining district that grew around it changed the local landscape and brought workers from across Europe. Koersel itself kept a more rural character, and woodland and open fields still fill much of its territory.
A Koersel map poster reflects that Kempen pattern. Roads branch out from a small centre, houses line those roads, and the gaps between them are filled with forest and heath. The composition is soft and airy, with long lines leading off toward neighbouring villages.

Kempen woodland
Pine woods and heath cover large parts of the district. On the map they become wide, calm areas between the streets.
Village centre
The roads meet near the parish church in a small, compact centre. It gives the map a clear focal point among the scattered lanes.
