Colonial centre
The historic core around the plaza and cathedral is laid out as a small grid of short blocks. It is the densest part of the map and the natural centre of the poster.

La Asunción Map Poster & Print
La Asunción is the capital of Nueva Esparta state in Venezuela, on Margarita Island in the Caribbean. Unlike the island's busier coastal towns, it sits inland in a valley surrounded by hills, a site chosen in the colonial period partly for protection from raids from the sea. On the map the town forms a compact centre, with streets spreading along the valley floor.
The town has one of the oldest cathedrals in Venezuela, begun in the sixteenth century, and the Castillo de Santa Rosa, a fort on the hill above the centre. Nearby rise the forested heights of Cerro El Copey National Park, which cover some of the highest ground on the island and give the town a green backdrop.
A La Asunción map poster captures a compact colonial town surrounded by relief. The historic grid, the roads winding up into the hills and the slopes of Copey create a composition quite different from coastal maps of the island. It suits anyone who knows the quieter administrative heart of Margarita.

Castillo de Santa Rosa
The fort on the hill above the town is surrounded by winding roads, one of the few places where the street network climbs noticeably above the valley.
Hills of Copey
The protected heights of Cerro El Copey form an area almost free of streets, a quiet green expanse that frames the town on the map.
