Lower Sackville is a suburban community in the Halifax Regional Municipality, northwest of Halifax and Bedford. Its map is shaped by one long commercial artery, Sackville Drive, from which residential streets branch off in loops, crescents and dead ends. It is the classic layout of a postwar North American suburb, drawn on a landscape of low hills and small lakes.
The Sackville River and the Little Sackville River wind through the community, and their course explains why some streets bend where they do. Highway 101 runs along one side, connecting the area to Halifax and to the Annapolis Valley beyond, and the edges of the map dissolve into forest and water in the way typical of Nova Scotia.
