Maguan Map Poster & Print
Maguan lies in eastern Gansu, on the Loess Plateau, a landscape of deep yellow soil carved by water into steep gullies, ridges and valleys. Towns here usually sit on the flatter ground of valley floors, and their shapes follow the terrain closely. Streets run along the valley, squeezed between rising slopes.
The hills around the town are shaped by generations of farming, with many slopes cut into terraces to hold soil and water. On a detailed map, the roads that climb out of the valley wind back and forth, while the town itself stays long and narrow.
A Maguan map poster reflects this strong relationship between town and terrain. The compact streets in the valley are surrounded by winding roads and branching watercourses, giving the print an organic look that is typical of the Loess Plateau.

Winding hill roads
Roads climb out of the valley in bends and switchbacks, adding looping lines that suggest the steep terrain around the town.
Branching gullies
Watercourses branch through the loess hills like the veins of a leaf, forming delicate patterns around the edges of the map.
