Blackwater estuary
Broad tidal water, marsh islands and branching creeks fill the east of the map. They give the composition large open spaces and irregular organic outlines.

Maldon Map Poster & Print
Maldon stands on a ridge above the head of the Blackwater estuary in Essex. The High Street follows the crest of the hill and then drops east to the Hythe, the old quay. Beyond it the land dissolves into saltmarsh, creeks and mudflats. On a map the town is a compact knot of streets, with water spreading out below it in soft, irregular shapes.
The town is linked with the Battle of Maldon of 991, fought nearby between English defenders and a Viking force and remembered in an Old English poem. Today Maldon is also known for its flaky sea salt. At Hythe Quay, traditional Thames sailing barges still tie up against the waterfront.
A Maldon map poster works because of the contrast. Tight streets sit on the hill, and loose tidal channels spread across the lower half of the sheet. Heybridge lies on the other side of the river, where the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation runs out toward the estuary. Parks and a promenade trace the edge of the water.

Hythe Quay
The old quay at the foot of the hill is where the town meets the river. Moored sailing barges and the waterside streets gather here.
Chelmer navigation
The canalised waterway through Heybridge draws a firm straight line through the lowland. It stands out against the winding natural channels of the estuary around it.

དོན་དག་ཡོད་པའི་ས་ཁྲ།
Maldon suits anyone who sails the Blackwater, grew up among its hill streets or simply loves the look of tidal Essex. The mix of an old town core and sprawling marsh gives the wall something both orderly and wild, a view that changes with the tide in memory.
