Oasis edge
Cultivated land ends in a clear line where irrigation stops. The busy lines of fields and roads give way to plain open ground on the poster.

Manglai Map Poster & Print
Manglai lies in the Hotan area of southern Xinjiang, on the edge of the Taklamakan Desert. Settlement here depends on rivers fed by the Kunlun Mountains to the south, and the map shows a sharp division. On one side is a green, finely divided oasis of fields and canals. On the other is the empty sand of the desert.
Within the oasis, roads and irrigation channels tend to run in long straight lines, often bordered by rows of trees, with farm plots filling the spaces between them. The town itself forms a denser node within this network. In black and white the pattern resembles woven fabric, and the edge of the desert acts as a natural border.
The Hotan oases have been inhabited for a very long time. They lay on the southern routes of the Silk Road and have long been known for jade carried down by the Kunlun rivers. A Manglai map poster shows a small part of that landscape in detail: the geometry of irrigated farmland at the scale of a single town.

Irrigation geometry
Straight canals and field roads divide the oasis into regular plots. From above, they form a dense lattice that is the town's most distinctive graphic feature.
Kunlun meltwater
Rivers descending from the Kunlun Mountains feed the Hotan oases. Their channels, and the canals drawn from them, are the structural lines that make settlement here possible.

This map appeals to people with ties to southern Xinjiang and to anyone drawn to the graphic tension of desert landscapes. The contrast between dense cultivated land and blank sand makes a striking composition, even for viewers who have never been there.
Write your own title and subtitle and adjust the coordinates line. The Sand style suits the setting, while Blueprint and Noir give the irrigation lines a sharper edge. The HD files cover six print sizes, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF.
