Pinhal de Leiria grid
The forest is divided into regular blocks by straight tracks and firebreaks. They create a striking geometric grid that covers a large part of the map around the town.

Marinha Grande Map Poster & Print
Marinha Grande lies a short distance inland from the Atlantic in the district of Leiria, and on a map it is defined by what surrounds it. To the west and north stretches the Pinhal de Leiria, a huge planted pine forest crossed by long, straight tracks, while the town forms a compact cluster of streets and industrial sites in a clearing at its edge.
The town is known as the centre of Portuguese glassmaking. A royal glass factory was established here in the eighteenth century, later run by the English Stephens brothers, drawn by the fuel the forest provided, and glass and mould-making have shaped the town ever since. The forest is traditionally linked to medieval royal plantings and was badly damaged in the wildfires of 2017.
A Marinha Grande map poster shows an unusual composition in which the forest matters as much as the town. The straight grid of forest roads and firebreaks fills much of the sheet, and the coast at São Pedro de Moel adds a final line of sand and sea. It is a portrait of a town and the landscape that made it.

Glassmaking centre
The town centre, with the former royal glass factory and the streets around it, forms a compact core where Portugal's glass industry grew from the eighteenth century onward.
São Pedro de Moel
On the coast, the small resort of São Pedro de Moel sits on a slope above the Atlantic. Its winding streets are a counterpoint to the straight lines of the forest.

People connected to Marinha Grande often feel a strong bond with both the factories and the pinhal, which many watched burn and slowly recover. A map that shows the town and its forest together becomes a meaningful keepsake of that landscape.
