Sintra railway line
The suburban railway to Lisbon runs along the edge of the area, drawing a long straight line that explains why the neighbourhood grew here.

Massamá Map Poster & Print
Massamá is a parish in the municipality of Sintra, on the western edge of greater Lisbon. From above, it is one of the region's densest residential areas. Blocks of mid-rise apartments stand on sloping ground, and roads curve around them to follow the terrain rather than any strict grid.
The area grew quickly in the late twentieth century as Lisbon expanded along the Sintra railway line. That line, along with the major highway leading into the capital, still defines the map. Both run in long, firm strokes, and the suburb fills the ground between and beside them.
A Massamá map poster shows a very modern kind of place: tightly packed streets, cul-de-sacs, roundabouts and small green gaps where the slope was too steep to build. It is a map about everyday life, a commute into the city and a neighbourhood that people know well.

Curving residential streets
Roads loop around apartment blocks and follow the hillside, producing rounded, interlocking shapes instead of the square grid of older Lisbon districts.
Roundabouts and junctions
Traffic circles and highway junctions appear as neat rings and ramps, giving the black-and-white design some clean, almost technical detail.
