Maywood is one of the smallest and most densely populated cities in Los Angeles County, and the map makes this obvious. A tight, regular street grid covers nearly every part of its compact area, with rows of small residential lots and a few commercial corridors cutting through them at clean right angles.
Along its edge runs the Los Angeles River, here a straight, engineered concrete channel. On the map it reads as a firm diagonal border. Maywood Riverfront Park, set beside the river, is one of the few breaks in the dense grid.
