Mühlacker lies in the Enzkreis district of Baden-Württemberg, between Pforzheim and Stuttgart. The Enz winds through the town in a series of bends, and on the map the river is the central line around which the districts are arranged. The old village of Dürrmenz lies along the water, while the newer centre grew up around the railway station, a junction on the line between Stuttgart and Karlsruhe.
Above Dürrmenz stands the ruin of Löffelstelz castle. The town is also known for the Mühlacker transmitter, whose tall mast has carried radio across south-western Germany for decades. Outlying villages such as Lienzingen, with its fortified church, add small clusters of streets among the fields, orchards and woodland on the surrounding hills.
