Nakatsu Map Poster & Print
Nakatsu lies in the north of Oita Prefecture on the island of Kyushu, where the Yamakuni River reaches the Suō Sea. It began as a castle town. Kuroda Yoshitaka, also known as Kanbei, built Nakatsu Castle in the late sixteenth century, and other lords held it later. The reconstructed keep stands beside the river mouth, close to the historic centre.
Nakatsu is also where Fukuzawa Yukichi, the educator and founder of Keio University, spent his childhood, and his former residence is preserved as a museum. From above, the old castle district keeps its narrow, irregular streets, while newer neighbourhoods spread across the coastal plain. The shore is low and flat, and tidal flats extend out into the sea.
A Nakatsu map poster combines the texture of a historic castle town with the soft geometry of river and coast. Where water meets street the composition gets a clear focal point, and the plain behind it adds breadth. It suits anyone who grew up here, has visited the castle or feels connected to this part of Kyushu.

Old castle-town lanes
The historic district around the castle keeps its narrow, irregular streets, a dense pattern that contrasts with the more open roads of later neighbourhoods.
Tidal coast
The shallow shoreline of the Suō Sea and its tidal flats give the northern edge of the map a soft, gradual transition from land to water.
