Nangomba lies in the Mtwara Region of southern Tanzania, inland from the Indian Ocean coast and north of the Ruvuma River, which marks the border with Mozambique. This is a largely rural part of the country, and the map reflects that. Instead of a dense urban core, it shows roads, footpaths and homesteads spread across a broad landscape.
Settlements in this area tend to follow the roads, with houses and small plots lining the main routes and thinning out into cultivated fields and bush.
