Grainger Town
The planned centre around Grey Street and Grey's Monument shows a clear, formal geometry of streets meeting at angles, distinct from the tangled older lanes descending to the Quayside.
Town Moor
North of the centre lies the Town Moor, a large open common where freemen still hold grazing rights, forming a wide empty shape amid the surrounding streets.
