Modern developments appear as tidy loops and cul-de-sacs, forming distinct clusters with their own internal street patterns.

Padre Hurtado Map Poster & Print
Padre Hurtado is a commune on the western edge of metropolitan Santiago, between Maipú and Peñaflor. On a map it sits at a transition. New housing developments with curving streets and cul-de-sacs are spreading across what was farmland, while orchards and fields still border the town on several sides.
The commune is named after Saint Alberto Hurtado, the Chilean Jesuit priest known for his work with the poor, who was canonised in 2005. The main road toward the coast runs through the area, and the Mapocho River passes nearby. It all lies in the broad central valley between the Andes and the coastal range.
A Padre Hurtado map poster shows a place in the process of change: new housing estates, older rural roads, and the long straight lines of the valley farmland. It is a picture of Santiago where the city gives way to the countryside.

Valley farmland
Orchards and fields still surround the commune, bordering the built-up area with long, straight field lines.
Road to the coast
A major route toward the Pacific crosses the area, providing a strong line that ties the commune to both Santiago and the sea.
