Pandharpur lies in Solapur district of Maharashtra, on the banks of the Bhima river, which is known locally as the Chandrabhaga because of the crescent-shaped curve it makes here. The Vithoba temple, dedicated to the deity Vithoba or Vitthal, is one of Maharashtra's most important pilgrimage sites.
