It was once the capital of a small princely state, and the Pataudi family is known across India, in particular through cricket: Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and his son Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi both captained India. The Pataudi Palace, set in grounds on the edge of town, remains its most famous landmark.
