Elbe river bend
The Elbe sweeps past the northern edge of the old town in a wide curve. It gives the poster a strong, flowing line that separates the historic core from the districts on the opposite bank.

Pirna Map Poster & Print
Pirna sits on the left bank of the Elbe just upstream of Dresden, where the river leaves the sandstone country of Saxon Switzerland and widens into its valley. From above, the compact old town forms a tight knot of lanes around the market square, pressed between the water and the rising ground to the south. Newer districts spread along the valley floor and climb the slopes on either side.
The market square is one of the best-documented urban views in Saxony. Bernardo Bellotto, known as Canaletto, painted it in the eighteenth century, and the houses and town hall he recorded still frame the space. Above the old town stands Sonnenstein Castle, and the tall hall church of St. Mary rises over the rooftops. Both are easy to place on a street plan.
A Pirna map poster renders all of this in fine black lines: the broad ribbon of the Elbe, the bridge linking the two banks, the dense grain of the medieval core and the looser suburban streets that follow the contours. Railway lines run along the river, and the edges of the map begin to break into the wooded side valleys that lead toward the sandstone rocks.

Canaletto's market square
The market square painted by Bellotto shows as an open rectangle inside the dense old-town grid, a clear focal point where the lanes of the medieval centre converge.
Castle above town
Sonnenstein Castle occupies the high ground at the edge of the old town, and the streets bend around its hill, marking the shift from river terrace to slope.

ག་ཅི་འབད་ Pirna
དོན་དག་ཡོད་པའི་ས་ཁྲ།
Pirna suits people who know the Elbe valley from walks, cycle tours along the river or trips into Saxon Switzerland. The map keeps the town's proportions honest, with a small medieval heart, a big river and steep ground close by. That makes for a balanced, quiet composition on a wall.
You can set your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, adding a family name or a meaningful date, and choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Download the HD files for $9 in six print sizes, or order a printed poster on matte paper, framed if you like.
