The town centre is small and tightly drawn, with streets bending around a circular lake, Situ Buleud, that works as a natural hub. Transport lines cross the town in clear strokes. The railway between Jakarta and Bandung runs through Purwakarta, and the Cipularang toll road passes nearby, drawing a long curve across the regency.
