From above it is one of the densest patterns in the region: courtyard houses, narrow streets and small squares packed together, with only a few wider roads cutting through.
The town takes its name from Saint Anthimus, and its historic centre still has the compact, inward-facing structure typical of the old agricultural towns of this plain, with buildings arranged around private courtyards.
