Shōranūr is a town in the Palakkad district of Kerala, on the banks of the Bharathapuzha, one of the state's longest rivers. It is best known as a railway junction: several major lines meet here, connecting the Malabar coast with central Kerala and routes toward Tamil Nadu. For many travellers the name is familiar before the town itself.
On a map, the railway is the town's most visible feature. Tracks converge from several directions and fan out into yards, and roads and neighbourhoods fill the spaces between them.
