Branching lanes
Narrow roads split and rejoin as they follow the higher ground. On the map they form a web of curves with no dominant main street.

Tennala Map Poster & Print
Tennala is in the Malappuram district of northern Kerala, inland from the Arabian Sea coast. Like many places in this part of the state, it does not have a single dense centre. Houses sit on their own plots among coconut palms and garden trees, and the settlement fills the landscape in a loose, even way rather than packing into a core.
From above the road network looks irregular and branching. Lanes follow the slightly higher ground between low-lying paddy fields, and the fields show up as open spaces with few lines through them. Small ponds and water channels add more shapes, especially in the wetter parts of the area.
This pattern, with homes spread across farmland instead of rows of streets, is very characteristic of rural and semi-urban Kerala. A Tennala map poster renders it as a fine, organic web of lanes, a very different picture from a gridded town and an honest portrait of how the place is actually laid out.

Paddy lowlands
Flat stretches of rice fields between the settled areas appear as open spaces, giving the dense lane network room to breathe on the map.
Homestead pattern
Houses stand in their own garden plots rather than in terraces, so the built-up area spreads widely and evenly instead of forming one compact centre.

Many families from Malappuram live and work far away, in other Indian cities or in the Gulf. A map of the home village's lanes and fields is a way of keeping it close, and it makes a thoughtful gift for parents or for a new house.
Personalise the title, add a subtitle with a family name or date, and edit the coordinates line. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
