Tinton Falls is a borough in Monmouth County, New Jersey, a few miles inland from the Jersey Shore. It takes its name from a small waterfall on a local brook. From above, the borough is a mix of wooded areas, winding residential roads, office parks and older crossroads, with the Garden State Parkway running north to south.
The area has a long history. In the late seventeenth century an ironworks was established here near the falls, among the earliest in the American colonies. The borough later went by the name New Shrewsbury before taking the name of its waterfall in the 1970s. The falls themselves are modest but remain the town's symbol.
A Tinton Falls map poster shows a suburban landscape that is not built on a grid.
