Town blocks
The urban area forms a compact pattern of mostly rectangular blocks. It is the most detailed part of the map and a clear, legible shape at the centre of the print.

Valença do Piauí Map Poster & Print
Valença do Piauí lies in the interior of Piauí, in northeastern Brazil, southeast of the state capital Teresina. The surrounding land is semi-arid, the caatinga and cerrado country typical of the sertão. On a map the town is a well-defined pattern of blocks with a clear edge. Beyond it, roads and tracks run out into sparsely settled land.
Like many towns in the Piauí interior, it grew as a centre for the surrounding rural communities. Its name echoes Valença in Portugal, and it is one of several Piauí towns given Portuguese names in the eighteenth century. Seasonal streams, dry for much of the year, still mark the terrain with faint winding lines that show where water runs after the rains.
A Valença do Piauí map poster works because the town stands out so cleanly from its setting. The block pattern is orderly and compact, the highway and rural roads give it direction, and the open semi-arid land around it leaves room to breathe. Printed in Sand or Paper, it takes on the warm tone of the sertão itself.

Roads to the interior
Main roads leave town toward Teresina and other Piauí centres. They cross the open country as long lines that connect the town to the wider state.
Seasonal streams
Watercourses that fill only during the rains cut faint, meandering lines across the land around the town, adding quiet detail to an otherwise open frame.

དོན་དག་ཡོད་པའི་ས་ཁྲ།
Many people from Piauí have moved to Teresina, São Paulo or Brasília, and a map of the hometown is a simple way to keep it present. This one is orderly and calm, and it looks equally at home in a city flat or a family house in Piauí.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a surname or a year, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The digital files cost $9 and come in six sizes, or you can order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
