Cité du Lignon
The long, continuous residential block of Le Lignon bends across the map near the Rhône, a single striking shape unlike anything else in the canton.

Vernier Map Poster & Print
Vernier lies northwest of the city of Geneva, on the right bank of the Rhône, and is the second most populous municipality in the canton. From above, it is a patchwork of distinct parts: old village centres, large postwar housing estates, industrial zones and green riverbanks. All of this is squeezed between the river and the edge of Geneva Airport.
Vernier's most famous building is the Cité du Lignon, a residential complex from the 1960s. Its single continuous block snakes for roughly a kilometre above the Rhône and is often cited among the longest residential buildings in Europe. On a map it appears as one extraordinary bent line, instantly recognisable among the smaller shapes around it.
A Vernier map poster shows how much variety fits into one suburban commune. The Rhône curves along the south with wooded banks, Le Lignon draws its long zigzag, and the airport and rail lines add strong straight edges to the north. Between them lie residential streets and village lanes. It is a surprisingly rich composition for a place many only pass through.

Rhône riverbank
The river curves along Vernier's southern edge, with steep wooded banks that appear as a calm, natural boundary beside the dense housing areas.
Airport and rail edge
The runway zone and rail lines along the north give the map long straight lines, sharply contrasting with the curves of the river below.
