Vigia, often called Vigia de Nazaré, lies on the shore of the vast estuary where the Pará River and the waters of the Amazon system meet the Atlantic. From above, the town is a compact block of streets pressed against the water, with tidal creeks and mangrove channels curling away to either side.
It is one of the older settlements of Pará, dating from the colonial period, and its religious festival devoted to Our Lady of Nazareth is a central event in the local calendar. The older quarter near the waterfront keeps a denser street pattern, while newer districts spread inland along roads heading toward Belém.
A Vigia map poster is mostly about the meeting of land and water. The broad estuary takes up much of the frame, and the shoreline turns ragged where creeks and mangroves cut into it. Against that, the small orderly grid of the town has a quiet, anchored presence.

Tidal creeks
Narrow channels wind through mangroves on either side of town, forming fine branching lines that look almost like roots or veins in print.
Colonial-era core
The oldest streets sit close to the waterfront, where the settlement began in the colonial period, and their tighter pattern contrasts with the looser districts inland.
