White Plains is the county seat of Westchester, north of New York City. The city is known for the Battle of White Plains, fought in October 1776 during the American Revolution, when George Washington's army withdrew north after the fighting. Today it is a regional centre for business, shopping and courts, and many people pass through it daily by train.
