Taroko Gorge
The Liwu River has cut a deep gorge through marble cliffs, and the road following it inland traces a sharp, twisting line across the map.

Xiulin Map Poster & Print
Xiulin is a township in Hualien County on the east coast of Taiwan, and one of the largest townships in the country by area. Most of it is mountain. Its map is dominated by rugged terrain, with settlements concentrated on the narrow coastal strip and along river valleys, and very few roads reaching deep into the interior.
Xiulin includes much of Taroko National Park, and the famous Taroko Gorge, carved by the Liwu River through marble cliffs, lies within it. The Central Cross-Island Highway follows the gorge inland, its line twisting through the mountains. The township is also home to many Truku indigenous communities.
A Xiulin map poster is an unusual print: a narrow band of coastal streets and villages against a wide, largely unbuilt mountain landscape, crossed by a single winding road. It is a map of contrast between the sea, the villages and the ranges.

Coastal settlements
Most villages sit on the narrow strip of land between the mountains and the Pacific, forming a thin band of streets along the coast.
Mountain interior
Much of the township is steep, forested mountain with few roads, which leaves wide open space on the map beyond the coast.

Xiulin is where many visitors to Taiwan remember seeing Taroko Gorge for the first time. For them, and for people from the township itself, this map is a quieter souvenir than a photograph, and it holds the shape of the place.
