Yanfolila is a town in the Sikasso Region of southern Mali, near the border with Guinea. It is the main town of the Wassoulou area, a region known throughout West Africa for its music and its hunting traditions. On a map, the town is compact, with a few main roads and a mesh of smaller streets and paths around a central market area.
The country around Yanfolila is wetter and greener than Mali's north. Wooded savanna, farmland and river valleys stretch in every direction.
