Yesan is a county seat in Chungcheongnam-do, in the west of South Korea. Its town centre is a compact grid of shops, markets and apartment blocks set in a river valley. Low hills and farmland stretch out around it. To the west lies Yedang Reservoir, one of the largest reservoirs in the country, whose many inlets give the wider map a distinctive shape.
The county is known for its apples, and orchards cover many of the surrounding slopes. It is also home to Sudeoksa, a Buddhist temple on the flanks of Deoksungsan whose main hall dates from the early fourteenth century. It is one of the oldest surviving wooden buildings in Korea. Yesan's traditional market has also drawn visitors in recent years.
