Highland terrain
The town sits on rolling ground, so streets curve along slopes and ridges instead of forming a grid, giving the print an organic feel.

Yirga ‘Alem Map Poster & Print
Yirga ‘Alem lies in the Sidama Region of southern Ethiopia, in the highlands on the eastern side of the Rift Valley. From above, the town spreads across gently rolling ground, with streets bending to follow the terrain and small plots and trees filling the spaces between buildings. Beyond the edge, farmland and coffee gardens cover the surrounding hills.
The Sidama area is one of Ethiopia's best-known coffee-growing regions, and much of the land around the town is devoted to it. A Yirga ‘Alem map poster shows the town's irregular street pattern and its main routes, which link it to Hawassa to the north and other towns in the region.
Yirga ‘Alem was formerly the capital of the old Sidamo province, before administrative functions moved elsewhere. Today it remains a regional market town, and its map records a settlement shaped by hills and by the green agricultural land around it.
