Asheboro is the county seat of Randolph County in the North Carolina Piedmont, near the geographic centre of the state. It is best known as the home of the North Carolina Zoo, which covers a large wooded site southeast of town and is one of the largest natural-habitat zoos in the United States.
The map starts with a small downtown grid around the courthouse area. From there, older neighbourhoods follow the rolling land with slightly bent streets. Later residential areas add curving drives and loops. Main highways pass around and through the town, and to the south the land rises into the low, wooded Uwharrie Mountains.
An Asheboro map poster shows a typical Piedmont town with its own features. The orderly centre, the streets shaped by hills, and the large green areas of the zoo and surrounding forest fit together well. In black and white the wooded land becomes calm open space around the densest streets.
