Cabaiguán is a town in Sancti Spíritus Province in central Cuba, set on the Carretera Central, the long highway that crosses the island from end to end. Its streets form a regular grid of rectangular blocks, the typical pattern of Cuban towns, with the highway and the railway giving the plan a strong east–west axis. Beyond the edges, farmland stretches out in every direction.
The district is known for tobacco, and the fields around the town have long supplied leaf to the Cuban cigar industry. Cabaiguán is also closely associated with immigrants from the Canary Islands, who settled in numbers in this part of the island and shaped its farming life.
