Carrefour Map Poster & Print
Carrefour is a commune in the Ouest department of Haiti, directly southwest of Port-au-Prince, on the southern shore of the bay. The city stretches along the coast, and from above it forms a long band between the water and the hills that rise behind it. Its name, meaning crossroads in French, reflects its role on the road leading out of the capital.
The main coastal road runs through the length of the commune, and most streets branch off it, either toward the shore or up the slopes. The flatter land near the water is densely built, while neighbourhoods on the hillsides follow the terrain in more irregular patterns, with streams and ravines coming down toward the bay.
A Carrefour map poster shows the close relationship between the sea, the road and the mountains in this part of Haiti. The commune was among the areas badly affected by the 2010 earthquake and has since rebuilt. On the map, the coastline and the steep ground inland give it a clear, strong shape.

Main coastal road
A single main road runs through Carrefour from Port-au-Prince toward the southwest, and much of the street network branches off it.
Hillside neighbourhoods
Inland, streets climb into the hills in irregular patterns, following ridges and ravines. The change from flat coast to steep slopes is easy to see.
