Ang mapa
Alcamo Map Poster & Print
Alcamo lies in western Sicily, on rising ground between the Gulf of Castellammare and Monte Bonifato. On the map, the historic centre is a fairly orderly network of streets and squares, with the castle of the Counts of Modica near the centre. Newer districts spread downhill towards the coast, while the steep, wooded mountain closes off the town to the south.
The town is linked to the beginnings of Italian literature. The thirteenth-century poet Cielo d'Alcamo wrote Rosa fresca aulentissima, one of the earliest poems in the Italian vernacular. Today Alcamo is also known for its wine. Vineyards cover much of the surrounding countryside, and the white wine of the area carries the town's name.
An Alcamo map poster brings together mountain, town and sea. The streets sit on the slope between the dark mass of Monte Bonifato and the open gulf to the north. The vineyards around the town appear on the map as a quiet, lightly lined field, which lets the dense centre stand out clearly.
